“Car Haven” is a made-up car-related meetup event that’s takes place at a racetrack / drag strip. This event is where car enthusiasts meetup together and have fun as well as doing challenges and races. In addition, people can have a chance to understand more about car culture and witness cars that are rare in the world. These posters spread the message about its existence to the locals. Each layout for the design posters took about half an hour for the design and the car illustrations take about an hour or less, depending on how complex the design and shapes are.
The event poster is one of my most favorite artifacts I’ve done in the Graphic Design Certificate Program at BCIT because I get to illustrate cars and graphics and I’ve been very comfortable with Adobe Illustrator during the BCIT program due to the understandability of the tools in the application. All posters and social media images are made with Adobe Illustrator through the use of the pen and shape tools.
The event also have a say through social media as well. The purpose of the project is to create an event poster in the style of past famous art styles as well as expressing visual language and mood. In this case: Pop Art. Pop Art was chosen in the project originally because the vibrant and wacky colors give off the retro feeling and encouragement to bring nostalgia to the viewer. In addition to the pop art use in the poster and social media posts, I gave the title a 3D look behind the lettering as well as a cartoony font to match the retro-like theme and a geometric font to balance the hierarchy and appearance equally. The cartoony font also served as a fitting combination with the pop art based on how it was used in vintage comic books.
Making the drafts was fun, but a little bit challenging in a way that I needed to think about what layout would work best for the event poster and how would the cars look like in a specific angle on the poster (Will the car be front facing, side view, rear/back, top, etc.?). The key elements I want to include in the poster is good hierarchy, appealing design, and bright vibrant colors to grab people's attention and even take the time to admire the design.
Millions of people use social media as we all know today. Since this is the case, all the event posters will be used on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (X), etc. Because of the vibrant colors, graphics, and typeface choice, this will get people's attention based on how unique the design is as well as eye-catching graphics.
